Wall Mount Range Hood Installation

Pay attention as what you are about to read may shock you – and cause you to take action. Are you ready? Your cooking could be harming your loved ones. And, no, we don’t mean your actual food – you are a great chef! It is the particles, vapors, and toxins that are released during the cooking process that is of particular concern. Often, while we cook, the food emits odors and vapors into the air. Of course, it sometimes gets a bit steamy too. What we don’t know is that some of these particles mixed with all of this can be harmful to us – and may even be carbon monoxide! You need a range hood. This simple addition to your home can remove all your food emissions from the air and return nothing but clean, safe, healthy, and odor-free air for you to breathe. Installing a wall mount range hood seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? Let’s review the installation process.

The Installation Process

Keep in mind that there are different types of range hoods and they should be installed according to the manufacturer. This, however, is simply an overview of the wall mount range hood installation process.

1. Choosing the right range hood

When you decide to purchase a range hood, you want to make sure that it is one that will match your kitchen and easily flow with the rest of your appliances. Thor Kitchen’s stainless-steel wall mount range hood comes in various sizes to fit perfectly above your range and allow for a very even, uniform look in your kitchen. Some range hoods hang overhead, while others are mounted to the wall. And, some are ducted while others are not. You must choose the best range hood for your kitchen and needs.

2. Determine the right location

If you purchase a wall mount range hood, this unit will be installed by attaching to the wall. Because of its purpose to vent the kitchen while you cook, the range hood is most efficient when it is installed directly over your range.

3. Connecting the range hood to the wall

Once you know where you are attaching the range hood to the wall, you want to make sure the duct port from the range hood is lined up properly with the duct port on your range. Then, use the provided screws to attach the range hood to the wall. Please note that you may need some assistance with this step in the installation process.

4. Hooking up the power

When you have the range hood attached to the wall and you have the ducts lined up as they should be, you will want to cut the power to your kitchen. This will ensure your safety as you connect the range hood to power. Depending on your appliance, you typically have two options: hardwiring it with a plug to use in a nearby outlet or wire the range hood directly to the power of the kitchen. On the back of your range hood is where you will find your power supply which consists mostly of 3 wires, one black, one green, and one white. Remove a small piece of the colored rubber shielding around each of the wires and twist them together securely. Next, turn your power to the kitchen back on – and your range hood should be in working order.

Long-Term Care for Your Range Hood

Once you have your range hood installed, you can cook and breathe freely. Though, it is very important to remember that your range hood has a very important job to do. And, as long as you care for it appropriately, it will continue to keep you and your family safe for years to come. This means caring for the unit itself as well as making sure the filter is clean and in working order.

Cleaning Your Range Hood

If you have invested in a stainless steel range hood, you can easily keep it clean by wiping it down regularly with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Consider using a little oil or club soda to buff it out afterward and maintain that bright shine. Your range hood comes into contact with a lot of greasy grime and vapors. It can leave it dull and dirty. Maintain its beautiful finish by cleaning the outside of the range hood regularly.

Cleaning Your Range Hood Filter

Keeping the filter of your range hood clean is perhaps the most important thing you can do in your kitchen. Why? Your filter pulls in all sorts of grease, moisture, and other particles from your cooking. Over time, this causes a buildup on your filter. No longer will this work to provide you with clean air – and it may even leave you with a bacteria breeding ground. The most danger of not cleaning your filter is a serious fire hazard. See, one flare-up of your food on the stove can ignite that filter. If your range hood is on, the flame can be suck into the range hood through the filter and make its way through the ductwork in your home. Always, always clean your filter. It is a simple process that should be done regularly. Remove the filters from the range hood and submerge them in a mixture of hot water, soap, and baking soda. Allow them to soak for 15 minutes or longer if necessary. Then, after the heavy debris is loosened, begin scrubbing them to remove all the buildup. Rinse, dry, and re-install them.
