While some people are looking forward to what the new year brings for things like the real estate market, work-life balance, and new technologies, others are focused on interior design trends. And, it’s all for good reason. After all, the spaces in which we spend our time can have an impact on our mood and our decisions – and this can ultimately affect our future. In other words, interior designs are more important than you think. 

Here are some interior design trends for 2022 to help you get started.

Let there Be Light

Maybe it is due to COVID lockdowns, but it is safe to say that most of us have a new appreciation for things like windows. When you are stuck inside for days on end – working from home, quarantining, and so forth – you may not have the chance to get out into the world much, right? But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to see it!

With the help of big windows – especially floor-to-ceiling windows – indoor spaces seem to feel less cut-off from the rest of the world. They not only give you more light and let you feel better from the sunshine but also give you a better view, too. 

Light plays a huge role in our mental health so having huge windows can have a positive impact on our overall quality of life. 

Marble Countertops

Marble has always been a bit sophisticated. We are talking about those thick, heavy marbles that come with a natural, rugged look. They scream durability and elegance all in one. Marble can come in different colors, but it looks best when paired in a kitchen with dark cabinets and stainless steel appliances. 

This design trend isn’t necessarily new, but it makes its way onto the list often. Stainless steel appliances, as well as marble, are both timeless classics that look amazing, always. 

Versatile Spaces

We are changing the way we view home. Almost two years ago, we were forced into viewing home and work+home. Two distinct areas of our lives that hadn’t come together as one until the global pandemic hit. We had to use the spaces that we used to live in for work, too. 

In the coming year, versatility will play a big role. For instance, no one wants to have their work stuff piled on their kitchen island or dining room table. But, if you don’t have a designated home office space, this is tough. Finding ways to use a space for more than one thing is proving to be very beneficial. Though, doing this tastefully is key. 

Sustainability and Vintage

Have you noticed the supply chain woes we are experiencing? Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there is a good chance you have at least heard about them – though, you’ve likely experienced the impact of them, too. 

Over the last several years, we have been moving into the idea of sustainable living. And, well, that means upcycling. Don’t spend money going to stores and buying new furniture or decor items, but rather shop at thrift stores and antique shops where you are sure to find unique items that stand out from the crowd. Even if it is only one piece in a room, the detail and touch that an antique piece can bring to an interior space are unbelievable. 

Bars in the Living Room

Bars in the living room used to be quite common, but the trend faded over time. Now, however, thanks to the pandemic and lockdowns, creating a bar at home – a safe place to drink and socialize – became quite the thing. Moving into 2022, it is officially making its way into interior design trends. We have all become used to staying home more, regardless of whether there is a lockdown or not. So, having this bar in the living room just makes sense. 

Wine coolers are an important part of these bars as they keep beverages cool and are small enough to fit in areas such as this. Wine coolers can keep wine stored appropriately, but they can also be used for storing beer, mixers, liquors, and more. 

The use of cabinetry with glass shelving and a mirrored back can make the bar area look beautiful. Couple it with a stainless steel wine cooler with LED lighting for the ultimate space.

Bring the Green

The feel of nature in an indoor space is exhilarating. If you have not been collecting plants, then it is time to start. Plants of all types and all sizes bring a sense of serenity to any room. But in addition to that, they also give you cleaner air to breathe. 

We could say that perhaps this trend stems from the pandemic, too, causing us to bring the outdoors in. Though people have been doing this for years – it is only now becoming more mainstream. So gather up some hanging plants, tall plants, short plants, and even some succulents. You just may be surprised at how they make you feel. 

Earthy Tones

Earthy tones, such as browns, grays, dark green, rustic orange, and the like are the in colors for 2022. They give us a sense of richness and depth. They not only welcome you into a space but they make you feel good while in it. Combining different varieties of these tones is a great way to make the entire area look unique and peaceful – and it is slowly becoming one of the hottest trends around. 

Again, perhaps it is because so many of us found our way into nature during COVID or maybe we’ve just come to a point where we want to connect with the natural world around us. 

As we begin to say goodbye to 2021 and head into all the hope and promise that 2022 brings, consider some upgrades in your kitchen and throughout your home.
